No. 10 USC Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 8 Texas A&M 4-1

The No. 10 USC women's tennis team fell to No. 8 Texas A&M 4-1 today (Feb. 12) while competing in a consolation match at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wisconsin.
After today's loss, USC falls to 6-2 overall while Texas A&M improves to 11-1.
The match began in doubles play, where the Aggies sealed the opening point after wins on courts one and two. The newly-ranked No. 2 doubles team in the nation in Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova defeated No. 40 Eryn Cayetano and Grace Piper 6-2 just before A&M's Carson Branstine and Mary Stoiana punched a 6-2 win over Salma Ewing and McKenna Koenig.
A&M seized five-of-six first sets in singles play and kept the momentum going, sealing the match on courts six, one and two, respectively. Jeanette Mireles defeated McKenna Koenig in a 6-0, 6-4 decision to push the Aggies ahead by a 2-0 advantage. Former Trojan No. 111 Carson Branstine's 6-4, 6-3 victory over No. 1 Eryn Cayetano followed on court one. With the Aggies up 3-0, USC was in search of a victory.
Trojan Snow Han answered the call with a 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 122 Mary Stoiana on court three to make it 3-1 in favor of A&M. The Aggies then sealed the deal on the veteran No. 105 Tatiana Makarova, as she sealed the team match with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over No. 18 Salma Ewing.

No. 10 USC women's tennis will hit the road again this week for matches against Oklahoma State (Feb. 19) and Oklahoma (Feb. 20). Both matches are scheduled for 12 p.m. CT.
