No. 12 USC Women’s Tennis Falls to UCLA 4-1 in Westwood

The No. 12 USC women's tennis team lost 4-1 to crosstown rival, the No. 56 UCLA Bruins, on Friday (Feb. 25) in Westwood, Calif. With the loss, the Trojans are 6-5 on the 2022 season.
On the sunny, cloudless day in Los Angeles, the crosstown rivals took to the court. Doubles began first, and the Bruins drew blood first as Hance/Vagramov (UCLA) beat USC's Morra/Willson 6-1 on court three. Over on court two, Trojans No. 19 ranked Ewing/Han competed against the doubles team of No. 30 Catanzarite/Forbes (UCLA). The Trojan tandem battled hard but fell to the Bruins 6-2 to give the doubles point to UCLA. The match on court one was suspended with #28 Bolton/Wagle and USC's Cayetano/Piper split at 4-4.
The Trojans entered singles at a 0-1 deficit. The Bruins continued to roll with the momentum gained in doubles as No. 111 Kimmi Hance defeated Trojan freshman Sloane Morra 6-1, 6-2 on court four.
USC redshirt sophomore No. 56 Snow Han beat Bruin No. 102 Sasha Vagramov to give the Trojans their first point of the day after a 6-1, 6-4 victory at three singles.
Shortly thereafter, USC's No. 103 Danielle Willson fell to UCLA's Ava Catanzarite 6-1, 2-6, 1-6 on court six. The Bruins held a 3-1 lead.
UCLA's No. 115 Abbey Forbes defeated USC's No. 5 Eryn Cayetano 6-3 4, 7-5 on court fiveone to clinch the match for the Bruins.
After the Bruin win on court one, match play was suspended on courts two and five.
After today's loss, USC and UCLA now hold 50-50 all-time record. The Trojans will face the Bruins again on April 15 in a conference match at Marks Stadium (1:30 p.m. PT).
The Women of Troy return home tomorrow (Feb. 26) to take on UC Santa Barbara at 12 p.m. PT. This match will mark the Trojans first home match in over a month.
