No. 21 USC Women’s Tennis Downs Washington State 4-3

The No. 21 ranked USC women's tennis team kicked off a four-match homestand with a 4-3 victory over Washington State on Friday (April 1) at Marks Tennis Stadium. With the win, USC improves to 11-10 (4-3) this season.
The match began with doubles play, with the No. 64 ranked Trojan duo of Eryn Cayetano and Grace Piper suffering a 6-2 loss to Washington State's Murphy/Bayerlova on center court. Next, Cougars Ly-Nguyen/Lee defeated USC's Naomi Cheong/Snow Han 6-4 on court two to haul in the double's point for Washington State. With the doubles point decided, action on court three was suspended with Salma Ewing/Sloane Morra up 5-4 over WSU's Kumkorn/Abouelsaad.
With a one-point deficit, USC had work to do come individual action. The No. 6 ranked Eryn Cayetano got to work in singles play, picking up the first point of the day for the Trojans after a 6-1, 6-3 win on court two. With the score tied at 1-1, senior Danielle Willson stepped up to the plate, downing Cougar Else Tse 6-3, 6-3 on court six to give the Women of Troy the lead. Next up, Trojan Grace Piper downed WSU's Hania Abouelsaad 6-3, 6-3 to extend USC's lead. Then, over on court three, Trojan #77 Snow Han fell to WSU's Maxine Murphy 7-6 (3), 7-5, bringing the score to 3-2. The match was decided on court six as Sloane Morra battled to defeat Cougar Yang Lee 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4.
With the match decided, the battle on center court was played out with Trojan #41 Salma Ewing eventually falling to WSU's #91 Michaela Bayerlova 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(5).
The No. 21 Women of Troy continue Pac-12 play tomorrow as they welcome Washington for a 12 p.m. match. Free pizza and t-shirts will be available to fans in attendance.
