No. 13 USC Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 to Notre Dame During ITA Kickoff Weekend

Trojans will face Stetson/No. 6 Georgia tomorrow at 8 a.m. PT in consolation match.
The No. 13 USC women's tennis team fell to Notre Dame 4-3 today (Jan. 27) in Athens, Ga. during the first round of ITA Kickoff matches. The Women of Troy drop to 4-1 on the season with the loss.
The Trojans made the first move in doubles as Naomi Cheong and Snow Han defeated Notre Dame's Page Freeman/Bojana Pozder 6-3 on center court. Shortly thereafter, the USC duo of Grace Piper and Nathalie Rodilosso downed the Fighting Irish pair of Yashna Yellayi/Rylie Hanford 7-5 on court three. The match on court two was suspended with USC's No. 20 ranked Maddy Sieg and Eryn Cayetano leading Notre Dame's Julia Andreach/Carrie Beckman 5-4.
Moving into singles with a one point advantage, the Fighting Irish forged ahead, with Akari Matsuno defeating Trojan McKenna Koenig 6-3, 6-3 on court six to tie things up.
Trojan freshman No. 2 Maddy Sieg continued her winning ways to put USC back on top, downing Julia Andreach 6-4, 7-5 on court two. Fellow freshman #83 Emma Charney would give the Trojans another point, defeating No. 102 Nibi Ghosh 7-5, 7-5 to bring the score to 3-1.
Notre Dame would win back to back matches to tie things up, as Trojans #17 Snow Han and #24 Eryn Cayetano would each fall to their respective opponents. The score was tied at three points all.
The match result came down to the decision on court five. After splitting the first two sets, Notre Dame's Akari Matsuno took the third set over sophomore Grace Piper to win 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 to clinch the match for the Fighting Irish.
USC will face either Stetson or No. 6 Georgia in tomorrow's 8 a.m PT/11 a.m. ET ITA Kickoff Weekend consolation match.
