The Women of Troy got 24 kills from senior OH Skylar Fields in a 3-0 win over the Wildcats

LOS ANGELES – The USC women's volleyball team (15-8, 9-4 Pac-12) defeated Arizona (6-18, 1-12) in straight sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-20) at Galen Center on Friday, Nov. 3. The Women of Troy improved to 9-0 at home this fall.

KEY PLAYERS

Sr. OH Skylar Fields led USC with 24 kills (2e, 43att) and hit .512 to go with nine digs and two blocks. It was Fields' 52nd time in double-digit kills as a Trojan; and her 31st time with 20 or more kills in a match. She now has 1,067 as a Trojan and 1,993 in her career including kills collected at Texas.
Jr. S Mia Tuaniga set the Trojans to a .235 hitting percentage (40k, 17e, 98att) and finished the day with 34 assists, four digs, four kills (0e, 5att, .800), two blocks (one solo) and two service aces for 7.5 points. Tuaniga now has 99-career service aces and is tied for 13th all-time in program history for career aces.
So. DS/LIB Gala Trubint totaled 10 digs for her 16th match in double-digit digs and had a pair of assists.
Fr. OH London Wijay scored six kills with seven digs and two blocks.
For the Wildcats, Sofia Maldonado Diaz led with 12 kills and had seven digs and three blocks. In her return to Galen Center, Jordan Wilson had five kills but hit .000 (5e, 21att) and picked up four blocks (one solo). Alayna Johnson led all players with five blocks and had four kills but hit negative .167 (6e, 12att).

HOW IT HAPPENED

USC out-hit Arizona, .235 to .122 and had the edge in kills (40-29), assists (40-27), digs (38-36) and service aces (6-4).
Fields delivered six of her kills in the opening frame and helped power the Trojans to a 25-16 win. USC hit .212 with 13 kills in the first and held Arizona to a .103 outing thanks to two blocks and five digs from Trubint. The Trojans opened a seven-point lead at 17-10 and kept the 'Cats at bay to finish with the nine-point victory.
USC racked up four blocks in the second set and got another six kills from Fields who also provided the Trojans with five digs in a 25-18 win. Wijay added four kills and helped the Women of Troy outpace the Arizona attack, .194 to .138.
Fields was unstoppable in the third set and lifted the Trojans to a 25-20 win with 12 kills on 21 swings. Arizona led by five points at 12-7, but USC fought through and pulled even at 16-all. The score was tied one more time at 17, but Fields took over and had five of her kills as part of an 8-3 USC run to close out the win. The Trojans hit .294 in the third and got five digs from Wijay and four from Trubint to hold the Wildcats to just nine kills and a .125 hitting percentage.

UP NEXT

The Women of Troy are back in action on Sunday afternoon against 15th-ranked Arizona State (22-3, 10-3 Pac-12). First serve is set for 2 p.m. PT and the match will be shown on Pac-12 Los Angeles and Pac-12 Arizona. It is USC's Salute to Service match and a Kids Club/Kids Corner Match. All fans 18 and under receive free admission with a valid school ID and the first 350 fans receive a special clear backpack.

MATCH NOTES

USC improved to 73-22 all-time against Arizona and won their 11th straight over the Wildcats. The win streak equals the longest in the series history (Dec. 10, 1976-Dec. 11, 1981). The Trojans go to 38-6 against Arizona at home and sweep the Wildcats for the 33rd time overall.
The Trojans get their fifth 3-0 victory of the season and are 5-2 in three-set matches.
The Women of Troy improve to 202-54 (.789) all-time at Galen Center and stay undefeated this season at 9-0. The win extends the Trojans' home win streak to 11 straight matches dating back to Nov. 12, 2022.
USC had more kills than its opponent for the 17th time this season and more digs for the 15th time this fall.
