May 26, 2023 | Women's Tennis
LAKE NONA, Fla. – USC's historic run at the women's NCAA Individual Championships came to a close this evening as Maddy Sieg (singles, doubles) and Eryn Cayetano (doubles) fell during the semifinals.
Freshman All-American Sieg was defeated by crosstown UCLA rival Fangran Tian. Rain in Orlando led the semifinal to be played inside, with Tian eventually claiming the match 6-3, 6-2. Sieg wraps up a colossus rookie year with a 32-3 overall singles record, going 22-2 in dual match play.
The Connecticut native made history this week, becoming the first Trojan to reach the NCAA singles and doubles semifinals in the same season. She was also the only player in the tournament to reach both semifinals.
In doubles, senior Eryn Cayetano and Sieg lost to UNC's Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals. The Trojan duo wraps up the season with an overall doubles record of 17-5.
