No. 18 USC Women’s Tennis Advances To ITA Kickoff Weekend Championship Match With 4-2 Victory Over No. 21 Miami

LOS ANGELES – The No. 18 ranked USC women's tennis team defeated No. 21 ranked Miami 4-2 to advance to the ITA Kickoff Weekend Championship match in Knoxville, Tenn. The Trojans will play in the championship final tomorrow at 12 p.m. PT against the winner of the Tennessee/Vanderbilt match.
With the win, the Trojans improve to 3-0 and have an opportunity to punch their tickets to the 2024 ITA National Team Indoor Championships (Feb. 9-12).
USC captured the early point after claiming two doubles matches. First, the No. 29 ranked duo of Parker Fry and Grace Piper beat Miami's Isabella Pfennig/Leonie Schuknecht 6-3 on court two. Moments later, on center court, USC No. 10 ranked pairing of Eryn Cayetano and Emma Charney defeated the Hurricane duo of Alexa Noel/Xinyi Nong to haul in the doubles point for the Trojans.
Moving into singles play with a one-point advantage, it would be No. 83 ranked Eryn Cayetano to score first for the Women of Troy as she'd down Miami's Xinyi Nong 6-0, 7-5 to bring the score to 2-0 in favor of the Trojans.
Over on court four, No. 66 ranked Grace Piper defeated her Hurricane opponent in two sets, beating Leonie Schuknecht 6-3, 6-4 to put USC one point away from victory.
The Hurricanes fought back, scoring back-to-back points on courts six and one. Freshman Lily Fairclough fell 6-4, 6-2 to No. 81 Audrey Boch-Collins, before No. 33 ranked Snow Han fell to Miami's No. 25 ranked Alexa Noel 6-2, 6-3 on center court.
The match was decided on court, with No. 22 ranked Emma Charney battling to beat Miami's No. 90 ranked Isabella Pfennig 6-2, 7-5. The remaining match was abandoned with No. 42 ranked Naomi Cheong leading Antonia Balzert 3-6, 6-1, 4-3.
