USC’s Jasmine Koo Claims Individual Prize at Windy City Collegiate Classic

Freshman Jasmine Koo earned her first career tournament win, and this is the first time since 2015-16 that two different Trojans have won back-to-back individual tournament titles
WILMETTE, Ill. – Freshman Jasmine Koo took no time to make a name for herself, as she earned her first individual title, in her second career start for the Women of Troy. The Trojans ended up in third place as a squad as they wrapped up the final day at the Windy City Collegiate Classic on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Ill.
Koo's win is the first time since 2015-16 that the two different Trojans have won back-to-back individual tournament titles. During that season, Amy Lee claimed the Matador Invitational, and Robyn Ree won The Gold Rush tournament.
Koo became the first freshman to win a tournament title since Amari Avery (Icon Invitational; Feb. 22, 2022). Koo ended her Windy City Collegiate Classic with a five-under par outing, as she went 68-67-76 in the three rounds.
"Jasmine has been working really hard and smart the last couple weeks and we're really proud of her for her efforts," head coach Justin Silverstein said. "She's improved in a lot of areas since she showed up to campus and we look forward to continuing to work with her so she can achieve everything she wants in golf."
USC ended the tournament in third place, staying in the same spot it was in coming into the third round. As a squad, the Women of Troy went 16-over par in the final round and ended up 25-over par for the tournament. USC finished eight strokes behind South Carolina (+17) for second place, as Arizona State won the tournament at 11-over par.
"One of the reasons we love coming to this tournament to compete is because of the difficulty of the golf course," Silverstein said. "Playing these courses at this time of year gives us a great reading on where we're at as a team and where we need to improve. Based on our first two events, we've been able to identify those areas, and it'll give us some stuff to work on before we head to Stanford."
Finishing second on the squad was sophomore Bailey Shoemaker. Shoemaker picked up her ninth career top-25 finish, as she was tied for 15th at six-over par. The sophomore had the best final round as she was an even-par, claiming four birdies and four bogeys.
Freshman Kylie Chong tied for 43rd in her second-career tournament as she was 13-over par. Chong carded a 79 (+7) in the final round for the Women of Troy.
Junior Catherine Park and senior Xin (Cindy) Kou tied at the bottom of the lineup as they were both 18-over par for the tournament. Both players finished tied for 59th overall.
USC will have some time before its next tournament, slated for the Stanford Intercollegiate starting Friday, Oct. 18, through Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
