No. 1 USC Beach Volleyball Locks Down No. 5 Lions for 4-1 Victory

The Women of Troy improved to 2-1 at the Duke Kahanamoku Classic on Friday morning
HONOLULU – The No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (2-1) defeated No. 5 Loyola Marymount (1-2) by a 4-1 count on Queen's Beach at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic on Friday, Feb. 23.

The Women of Troy improved to 28-0 in all-time meetings with the Lions and go to 25-3 all-time on the Hawaiian Islands. The Trojans also improved to 136-15 when they are ranked No. 1 in the AVCA poll.

The Trojans clinched the match on a win from their No. 2 pair of twin graduates Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse. The sisters defeated Isabelle Reffel and Abbey Thorup, 21-10, 18-21, 16-14, for their 93rd-career victory when paired.

The Trojans took the first point of the dual with a win at the No. 4 position when sophomores Gabby Walker and Madison White claimed a 21-12, 22-20 win over Jaeya Brach and Chloe Hooker. USC went on top, 2-0, with a win at the top spot when seniors Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple completed a 21-19, 21-18 win over Vilhelmiina Prihti and Michelle Shaffer for their 31st victory as a pair to move into a tie for 16th all-time in program history.

USC tacked up a fourth point with a win at the No. 5 position when senior Olivia Bakos and graduate Ainsley Radell took down Cassie Chinn and Madi Firnett, 18-21, 21-11, 15-11. The Lions took the last of three three-setters at the third court for their only dual point when Anna Pelloia and Jacinda Ramirez earned a 22-20, 12-21, 16-14 win over graduates Maddi Kriz and Grace Seits.

The Trojans will face tournament host ninth-ranked Hawai'i (0-3) in a 2:45 p.m. PT (12:45 p.m. HT) dual on Queen's Beach this afternoon (Feb. 23). Dual results will determine USC's placing in the quarter and semifinal rounds for Saturday action at the Classic.
