No. 3 USC Men's Water Polo Falls 13-11 at No. 2 Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. -- In a back and forth contest at No. 2 Cal, the No. 3-ranked USC men's water polo team came up just short in the final period, falling 13-11 on the road to the Golden Bears.
USC tied it up early in the fourth quarter, but the Trojans were outscored 4-2 down the stretch to fall to Cal for the second time this season. USC moves to 13-2 on the year and 1-1 in MPSF play with the loss, while the Golden Bears move to 12-2, 1-1.
After the teams were tied 4-4 at the break, Cal outscored the Trojans 5-4 in the third to take a one-goal lead into the final period. USC's Luke Nelson tied the game at 9-9 early in the fourth, but the Bears would go on a 3-0 run over the next 3:33 to take control of the match. Mihailo Vukazic pulled the Trojans back to within two on a penalty shot with 1:56 left in the game, but USC couldn't convert on their next two possessions, getting a penalty shot saved and missing a shot.
Vukazic led USC with three goals in the game, and three other Trojans had a pair of goals. Charles Mills had 11 saves in goal.
NEXT: The Trojans have the rest of the week off and then will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at home when they host Pacific.
