USC's Maribel Flores Highlights Postseason Awards with B1G Midfielder of the Year Honors
November 04, 2025 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – The Big Ten announced its postseason awards on Tuesday and USC women's soccer standout Maribel Flores was named the conference's Midfielder of the Year. Jaiden Anderson also took home third team honors and Bella Grust earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Flores, who led USC in points this season, is the fourth USC player in the last five years to be named a conference Midfielder of the Year, following Helena Sampaio (Big Ten) last year and Croix Bethune (Pac-12) in both 2021 and 2022.
The junior sensation led the offensive attack for the Trojans all season, scoring nine goals and posting four assists while starting every game. Flores' nine goals and 22 points were second in the Big Ten and her three game-winning goals were fifth in the conference. She posted three multi-goal games on the year and her four assists were tied for the team lead with Anderson.
Flores also earned a spot on the All-Big Ten first team, marking the second all-conference nod of her career. She was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and to the All-Pac-12 third team in 2023.
Anderson was the other offensive catalyst for USC this season, with her 16 points good for second on the team. The sophomore forward appeared in every game and made 13 starts up top, scoring six goals and finishing tied with Flores with four assists. Anderson had a goal and two assists early in the season against New Mexico State and had a stretch of three straight games with a goal against Rutgers, Oregon and Minnesota during Big Ten play. It is the first all-conference award of Anderson's career.
Grust was the Trojans' leader in goal all season, starting all but one game at goalkeeper and logging 1,420 total minutes. The 5th year senior led USC to six shutouts on the year, making a total of 52 saves. She earned Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week on Aug. 26 after leading the Trojans to wins over New Mexico State and Pepperdine.
The Big Ten Sportsmanship Award is given to student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
