LOS ANGELES – Petros Alex, who most recently served as an assistant coach at Utah State, has been named USC's assistant coach, head coach Alison Swain announced today (Dec. 19).
A native of Crete, Greece, Alex comes to Troy after spending the 2024-25 season at Utah State, where he helped the Aggies to a 15-9 record.
Alex spent the 2023–24 season as an assistant coach at Oregon, where he helped guide the Ducks to a 15-13 overall record and a sixth-place finish in the Pac-12 - the program's best performance in six years. Prior to his time in Eugene, Alex worked for several years as a private coach for top-ranked junior players and served as assistant director of North Oaks Tennis in Minneapolis, Minn.
A former Division I student-athlete, Alex played collegiately at North Dakota. He was a four-time ITA Academic Team selection (2019–23), earned AD Honor Roll honors each season and was named to the President's List in 2021. He also helped lead the program to its best season in school history and served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for three years. Alex graduated with honors from the University of North Dakota in 2023.
Alex began his coaching career as assistant director of tennis at the North Oaks Recreation Center in North Oaks, Minn., where he instructed more than 30 high school varsity athletes and worked as a travel coach.
He comes from a tennis family as his mother, Kathy, was a national champion and four-time All-American at UCLA, and all eight of his siblings have competed in the sport at various levels.
Alex's hiring is contingent upon completion of a successful University background screening.
