No. 19 USC Women's Basketball Wraps Up Nonconference Play With a 61-57 Gutsy Win Over Cal
December 22, 2025 | Women's Basketball
Trojan freshman Jazzy Davidson posts a career best 24 points.
SAN FRANCISCO — Freshman Jazzy Davidson scored a career-high 24 points to lift No. 19 USC to a 61-57 win over California on Sunday night at the Chase Center.
USC notched its 45th win over California at the Invisalign Bay Area Women's Classic, beating the Golden Bears 61-57 in the 80th all-time meeting between the former conference foes.
Davidson continued her strong stretch with her ninth consecutive double-figure scoring performance and her 12th of the season, adding four rebounds, four blocks and matching her career best with three three-pointers. The freshman guard also recorded her fourth 20-point outing of the year as the Trojans improved to 9-3 overall.
Senior Kara Dunn finished with 15 points and tied junior Gerda Raulušaitytė for a team-high six rebounds, while sophomore Kennedy Smith contributed 11 points, two assists and two steals. Smith and Dunn combined to go 10-for-22 from the field, helping USC overcome a tightly contested battle that featured 11 lead changes.
The Trojans leaned on their defense down the stretch, limiting Cal to just one made three on 11 attempts during the game (shooting nine percent). USC also forced 16 turnovers and converted key opportunities at the free-throw line late to preserve the win.
California erased a three-point halftime deficit and took a two-point lead into the fourth quarter behind balanced scoring, but USC opened the final period with an 8-0 run to regain control. Davidson's second-chance three at the 8:05 mark put the Trojans back in front for good.
The Golden Bears pulled within two in the final minute, but Dunn sealed the outcome at the line, scoring four points in the final 33 seconds to secure the victory.
Despite a season high 24 fouls, including two foul-outs, the Trojans managed to grind out the gritty win and close out nonconference play 8-3. The Women of Troy will now take a short break for the Holidays before resuming Big Ten play on Dec. 29 as the Trojans travel to Lincoln, Neb. for a noon PT game against the Cornhuskers.
