USC's Moritz Wesemann Claims Big Ten Silver Medal In 1-Meter Diving Competition

MINNEAPOLIS – Trojan first year diver Moritz Wesemann won a silver medal in the 1-meter competition to highlight USC's efforts during the second day of competition at the Big Ten Conference championships.
Wesemann tallied 392.35 points during prelims to carry the top seed heading into the 1-meter diving championship final. In the afternoon, he scored 396.90 points to finish second in the event and take home the silver medal. USC senior Shangfei Wang also reached the championship final, finishing eighth with 309.65 points. Junior Laurent Gosselin-Paradis was 18th overall with 287.70 points, contributing seven points for the Trojans. Â
In the competition pool, Oliver Sogaard-Andersen won the consolation final of the 500y freestyle. Sogaard-Andersen clocked a personal best 1:14.74 to take the second heat and pick up some crucial points for the Trojans.Â
Two Trojans advanced to the consolation final of the 200y IM, with Ben Dillard and Luke Maurer finishing fifth and seventh, respectively in the b final. Dillard clocked a 1:43.99 for fifth while Maurer touched seventh in 1:44.10.Â
A pair of splash and dash specialists reached finals in the 50y freestyle, with Diggory Dillingham touching fourth in the consolation final in 19.22. Senior Artem Selin was eighth in the c final in 19.70.Â
USC wrapped up the evening with a fifth-place finish in the 200y freestyle relay in an NCAA A-cut time of 1:16.40. Dillingham, Maurer, Sogaard-Andersen and Selin combined to earn a spot on the podium on Thursday evening.Â
Through two days of competition, USC currently sits in fourth place with 281 points. Indiana leads the way with 526 points, followed by Michigan (419.5) and Ohio State (413).Â
Action continues tomorrow with swim prelims at 10 a.m. CST / 8 a.m. PST and diving prelims at 12 p.m. CST / 10 a.m. CST. Finals will begin at 5:30 p.m. CST / 3:30 p.m. PST.Â
