
No. 16 USC Women's Tennis Comes Up Short Against No. 5 Michigan

Trojans drop first conference dual of the season.
LOS ANGELES – No. 16 USC women's tennis suffered its first conference loss of the season on Sunday, falling 4-2 to No. 5 Michigan at Marks Tennis Stadium.
With the loss, USC drops to 3-1 in Big Ten Conference play, while the Wolverines improve to 6-0.
The doubles point went to the Wolverines on Sunday afternoon, with USC falling on courts one and two to give Michigan an early one-point advantage. Center court saw USC's No. 5 ranked duo of senior Grace Piper and sophomore Lily Fairclough fall 7-5 to Michigan's No. 47 ranked pair of Bernales/Jones. The doubles point was decided on court two as Michigan's Piper Charney and Emily Sartz-Lunde beat USC's Jana Hossam and Sloane Morra 7-6(2). On court three, USC's Parker Fry and Emma Charney led the No. 70 ranked duo of Julia Fliegner and Reese Miller when play was suspended.
Momentum shifted back in USC's favor come singles play as freshman Jana Hossam won a straight-set match on court five to even the score. Hossam beat Jessica Bernales 6-3, 6-2 to bring the score to one-point all. The Wolverine's struck back winning on court three as No. 22 ranked Piper Charney (sister to Trojan Emma Charney), beat Fairclough 6-0, 6-3. No. 69 ranked Emma Charney didn't let up, keeping the Trojans' hopes at a comeback alive as she downed the No. 34 ranked singles player in the country, Lily Jones, 6-4, 6-2 on court two.
The match was decided on court six as No. 123 Reese Miller beat USC's Maia Sng 6-4, 6-4 to solidify the win. Play on center court was suspended with No. 46 Grace Piper in the midst of the three-set thriller with the No. 3 ranked singles player in Julia Fliegner.
Next up, the Women of Troy hit the road for the second time this season as the Women of Troy travel to Penn State on Friday, March 28 and Ohio State on Sunday, March 30.
