USC Beach Volleyball Tops Washington to Move Ahead at MPSF Tournament

The Trojans claimed a 3-0 win over the Huskies in their first dual in Huntington Beach
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – The third-seeded and fifth-ranked USC beach volleyball team (24-8) collected a 3-0 win over sixth-seeded No. 20 Washington (16-17) in the first round of the MPSF Championship at Spiker Beach on Wednesday, April 23.
The Women of Troy advance to the winner's semifinal and will play in the 12:30 p.m. PT match on Thursday (April 24) against either second-seeded Stanford (27-8) or seventh-seeded Oregon (8-18). With the win over UW, USC improved to 13-0 all-time against the Huskies and to 29-8 in conference tournament duals.
The Trojans fired the first shot of the dual with a straight-set win at the No. 2 position where freshman Kennedy Coakley and sophomore Ashley Pater claimed a 21-13, 21-15 win over Katarina Pantovic and Lauren Wilcock to improve to team-leading 25-3 overall.
USC put a stranglehold on the dual with a win at court four where junior Delaney Karl and graduate Ella Larkin collected a 21-11, 21-18 win over Emma Hohenauer and Sarah Wilcock to move to 11-3 overall.
The clinching point came from the top spot when sophomore Zoey Henson and junior Madison White knocked off Teila Allen and Jade Sadeiko in straight sets, 21-12, 21-18, to move to 22-7.
With the dual decided, play was stopped at the No. 3 position where graduate Maya Gessner and junior Mabyn Thomas led, 21-15, 18-13, over Niki Egan and Karolina Majernikova; and at court five where sophomores Madison Goellner and Kaileigh Truslow had a 23-21, 12-7 lead against Hannah Doyle and Alina Urzua.
