USC Track and Field Alumni Claim Six World Championship Medals in Tokyo

The Trojans dominated the relays with four podium appearances
TOKYO – USC Track and Field dominated at the Japan National Stadium this week for the 2025 World Athletics Championships. With 16 athletes across 14 different events, the Trojans came away with two gold medals, four silver medals and 12 top-10 finishes.
The first medal from a USC alum came on Friday in the men's 400m hurdles where Rai Benjamin secured the World Championship title in a season-best fashion of 26.52.
Jasmine Jones ran to a silver medal finish in the women's 400m hurdles shortly thereafter. She put up a personal best of 52.08 to secure her first world medal. Jones was accompanied by USC alums Anna Cockrell and Dalilah Muhammad who finished fourth and seventh, respectively.
USC was well represented during the relay finals with five Trojans representing their countries across three relays. TeeTee Terry brought home her third gold medal in the 4x100m relay with Team USA following last year's Olympic gold.
In the men's 4x400m relay, Rai Benjamin added another medal to the collection with a silver finish as a member of the USA relay team. Aaron Brown and Andre de Grasse also secured silver for Canada in the men's 4x100m relay.
Amalie Iuel came away with a fifth place finish with Norway, and a new Norwegian record, in the women's 4x400 relay. Iuel also ran a new career best of 54.28 in the semi final round of the women's 400m hurdles.
In the mixed relay, Nicole Yeargin and Yemi John helped Great Britain to fifth place. Both ran in the women's 4x400m relay as well but did not advance to the final. John, coming off an incredible year with the Women of Troy, became a world semifinalist in the women's 400m where she ran a 51.51.
On Friday, USC shot put record holder Ashley Erasmus made her World Championship debut with a best mark of 16.90. Erasmus will return for her sophomore season with the USC Track and Field team in January.
Jordan Scott achieved a fifth place finish in the finals of the men's triple jump with a distance of 17.21 meters.
In addition to her gold medal in the 4x100, TeeTee Terry ran an 11.07 in the 100m, just missing the mark to qualify for the final. Silver medalist Andre de Grasse made it to the semi final round of both the 100m and 200m and ran a season best in both with a time of 10.09 and 20.59, respectively.
Tade Ojora appeared in the men's 110m hurdles where he ran 13.90 but would not advance to the semifinal round. Chris Borzor also made an appearance on the world stage with a time of 10.36 in the 100m heats. Nick Ponzio had a strong showing in the qualifying round for shot put but missed the mark to advance to finals. Lorea Ibarzabal ran in the heats for the women's 800m putting up a time of 2:06.60.
