Twelve Trojans placed in the top three in their respective events on the final day of conference championships
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The USC track and field team logged two program records, twelve top-three finishes and three Big Ten meet records on the final day of Big Ten Indoor Championships. The Women of Troy finished in third place with 81 points and the men finished in sixth place with 44 points.
"I like where we are," said Quincy Watts, Director of USC Track and Field. "During the 4x400, I saw our team coming together. I saw them cheering loud. I think we're jelling in the right place mentally and in terms of being cohesive as a unit so I'm excited about that."
The Trojans swept the 400m and 200m races highlighted once again by a standout performance by Garrett Kaalund in the 200m. His new program record of 20.06 is the No. 2 time in NCAA history and No. 3 in the world all-time. He also broke the meet and facility record to bring home the gold in the event.
Ashley Erasmus also broke a school record in the shot put on her way to the bronze medal. The sophomore registered a best throw of 17.94m to break the previous mark set by Brittany Mann in 2017 at 17.78.
