USC Track and Field Set to Compete in Seven Indoor NCAA Championship Event Finals Following Day One Prelims

Garrett Kaalund led his field overall in the men’s 200m

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The USC track and field team posted a strong showing on day one of NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with four Trojans advancing to five spots in individual finals.

Dajaz DeFrand and Brianna Selby were the first finals qualifiers of the day in the women's 60m. DeFrand returned ready to defend her 60m national title with a prelims time of 7.16. Selby came in at the eight spot in a time of 7.21.

Madison Whyte posted a new personal record of 50.68 in the 400m. She advanced to the finals at the No. 2 spot overall.

Dajaz DeFrand took on her second race of the day, the women's 200m, in a time of 22.86 to move on to tomorrow's final.

Garrett Kaalund gave the packed stands at Tyson Track another show in the 200m. He ran the leading time by a hundredth of a second at 20.105 headed into finals.
