No. 4 USC Beach Volleyball Goes 2-0 On Day Two Of The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic

The Women of Troy remain undefeated heading into the final day of the tournament.
HONOLULU – No. 4 USC Beach Volleyball (4-0) hit the sand in Honolulu for the second day of the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic on Friday, Feb. 20. The Women of Troy remain undefeated in this early part of the season, taking down No. 16 Hawai'i 4-1 before topping No. 9 Cal 3-2. With today's wins, USC now has an overall record of 20-3 against Hawai'i and an overall record of 15-4 against California.
The No. 1 pair for both matches today was Ashley Pater and Kennedy Coakley. They went 1-1 on the day, defeating Sarah Burton and Caprice Lorenzo of Hawai'i with scores of 21-19 and 21-13. Later in the day, the duo dropped a close match to California's Emma Donley and Portia Sherman with scores of 24-22 and 21-17. With these performances, Coakley and Pater are now 2-2 on the season and 30-6 overall.
Zoey Henson and Sarah Wood competed in the second spot today, going 2-0 in their matches. These two grinded out a three-set win against Julia Lawrenz and Izadora Stedile of Hawai'i with scores of 21-13, 20-22 and 15-11. Once they returned to the court against California's Amelia Vugrincic and Jenna Colligan, Henson and Wood got the job done in two sets, winning their match 21-10 and 21-19. They are now 4-0 to start the season.
The No. 3 pair for USC was Alana Embry and Madison Goellner. They locked in USC's win over Hawai'i, coming back from a slow first set to grab the win in three. Embry and Goellner won that match against Julia Theile and Sophie Buschmann 11-21, 21-13, 15-13. From there, they returned to the court in the same position against Cal. Although they battled to stay in the match, they fell in two sets to the Bears' Gia Fisher and Ava Haughy with scores of 21-17 and 25-23. This duo is now 2-2 on the season.
Playing in the No. 4 spot were Quincy Stephens and Kaileigh Truslow. These two fought in a three-set match against Hawai'i's Emily Heintzelman and Sydney Miller, but they fell 15-21, 21-13 and 15-13. However, Stephens and Truslow rebounded against Cal, securing the win over Grace Hong and Elle Evers with scores of 21-15 and 21-15. This duo is now 2-2 on the season.
Rounding out the lineup in the No. 5 spot were Kyra Zaengle and Calinda Kok. This pair carried their momentum from yesterday into today, winning both of their matches. They started the day against Kristen Serrano and Kira Cornman of Hawai'i, grabbing a two-set victory with scores of 21-19 and 22-20. Later in the day, Kok and Zaengle earned a commanding win over Cal's Carly Hixson and Olivia Hoyt with scores of 21-9 and 21-10. After today, the duo is now 4-0.
