No. 6 USC Edged in Ranked Road Test at No. 14 Pepperdine

Trojans come up short in singles play against Waves.
MALIBU, Calif. - The No. 6 ranked USC women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision on the road to No. 14 Pepperdine on Saturday at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. Pepperdine claimed the doubles point and secured three straight-set singles victories to seal the match.
With the loss, the Trojans drop to 7-3 overall.Â
USC opened doubles play with a strong showing on Court 1, where Lily Fairclough and Jana Hossam earned a 6-3 win over No. 48 Ziva Falkner and Sonja Zhiyenbayeva. The Waves responded, however, taking the next two courts to clinch the point. Alexia Harmon and Chantal Sauvant edged Dani Borruel and Eugenia Zozaya, 7-5, at No. 2, before Duru Soke and Shihomi Leong secured a 7-5 win over Immi Haddad and Emma Charney at No. 3.
In singles, Pepperdine pulled ahead. Sonja Zhiyenbayeva defeated Haddad 6-3, 6-1 on Court 2 to make it 2-0. No. 57 Ziva Falkner followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 32 Hossam at the top spot, pushing the Waves ahead 3-0. The clincher came on Court 5, where Alexia Harmon topped Krisha Mahendran 6-2, 6-3 to secure the 4-0 final.
Three other singles matches were left unfinished. No. 89 Eugenia Zozaya was tied 1-1 in the third set against Sauvant after splitting the first two sets, No. 39 Emma Charney was locked in a third set with Soke, and Borruel had forced a split with Leong before play was halted.
Up next, USC heads across town to take on No. 8 UCLA on Friday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. PT.Â
