USC's Jazzy Davidson Named USBWA National Freshman of the Week

LOS ANGELES — USC freshman guard Jazzy Davidson has been named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Tamika Catchings Freshman of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday, Feb. 3. The honor marks the second time this season Davidson has earned the national weekly recognition and comes on the heels of being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Davidson earned the national distinction following another standout two-game stretch that helped propel USC to victories over No. 8 Iowa and Rutgers. Against the Hawkeyes on Jan. 29, the freshman delivered a complete performance with 21 points and eight assists, accounting for 40 total points. Davidson also added four rebounds, two steals and one block in USC's statement win at the Galen Center. She followed with an all-around effort against Rutgers on Feb. 1, finishing with 16 points, nine rebounds, three steals and one block, while recording her 19th consecutive double-figure scoring game. The freshman accounted for 28 total points in the contest, including 12 generated off her five assists, as USC secured a 71-39 victory.
Through the season's opening stretch, Davidson has emerged as one of the most impactful freshmen in the country. She currently leads the Trojans in points per game (16.2), rebounds per game (6.4), assists per game (4.2), blocks per game (2.3), steals per game (1.9) and minutes played (33:51).
Davidson and the Trojans will hit the road this week for a pair of Big Ten matchups against Northwestern on Thursday, Feb. 5 and Illinois on Sunday, Feb. 8.
