USC Lacrosse Tops Cal in Season Opener at Rawlinson Stadium

Three Women of Troy had hat tricks to open the Rawlinson Stadium era with a 16-9 win over the Golden Bears
LOS ANGELES – The USC lacrosse team (1-0) christened the start of the Rawlinson Stadium era with a 16-9 season-opening victory over California (1-1) on Sunday, Feb. 8. The Women of Troy improved to 9-5 in season openers are to 1-0 on their new home field.

- So. goalie Charlotte Morton went wire-to-wire between the pipes to record her second-career win with seven saves and career highs of five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- So. attacker Vivian Leuthold scored her first-career goal and finished with four goals on six shots to lead all USC scorers. Leuthold also had three ground balls and caused a turnover.
- So. midfielder Kaylee Fravert totaled a career-best five points (3g, 2a) in her fifth-career game with three or more goals.
- Jr. attacker Reese Robinson logged her first-career hat trick and finished the day with three goals, and two ground balls.
- Jr. attacker Emma Bunting shared game-high honors and matched her career high with five points earned on a career-high four assists and one goal. She also picked up a pair of ground balls and caused one turnover.
- In her collegiate debut, Fr. midfielder Sydney Stewart got the start and finished with a goal and an assist to go with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Jr. midfielder Anna Regan led all players with six draw controls and scored one goal.
- Redshirt Jr. midfielder Hannah Barron did a little of everything and finished the day with a goal and an assist, three draw controls, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
- So. midfielder Alex May had her first-career multiple-goal game and finished with two to go with two draw controls.
- For the Golden Bears, Courtney Wong and Emily Moes scored four goals apiece and Ashleigh Masterson had the other. Wong also led the team with five draw controls. In goal, Lulu Murphy took the loss but had six saves and a ground ball. Clara Page led the Cal defense with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
- USC outshot Cal, 35-27, and was quicker to loose balls by a 23-15 count for ground balls. The Trojans also won the center circle by a 16-12 margin in draw controls and went 20-for-20 on clear attempts.
- The Bears scored the first goal of the game at 13:41, but May had an answer for the Trojans with her goal at 13:12. USC went ahead momentarily, 2-1, but Cal got three straight goals from Moes to go on top, 4-2, with 2:47 to play in the first quarter. The Trojans trimmed the lead to one goal when Stewart found Regan on the crease for USC's third goal.
- Regan's goal sparked a 4-0 USC run that put the Trojans in front for good. Barron, Leuthold, and Bunting had the next three goals for a 6-4 USC lead at 11:45 in the second quarter. Cal got two second-quarter goals from Wong but the Trojans topped off a 6-2 frame when Robinson scored off a feed from Fravert to make it 9-6 for USC at the half.
- Fravert and Stewart scored back-to-back to open the second half and put USC ahead by five goals, 11-6. Cal's Masterson had the only other third-quarter goal as the Trojans took an 11-7 lead into the fourth.
- USC's lead ballooned to eight goals as Fravert, Leuthold, Robinson, and May each scored to push USC out to a 15-7 advantage. Wong scored once more with 8:52 to play but Leuthold tickled the twine a fourth time to make it 16-8 before Moes closed out scoring at 4:30 for a final score of 16-9 for the Women of Troy.
- USC plays the second of three straight home games to open the spring when it hosts 20th-ranked Denver (0-0) at Rawlinson Stadium on Thursday (Feb. 12). The two former MPSF rivals will take the field for a 6 p.m. PT opening draw and be shown live on Big Ten Plus.
- USC improved to 19-1 all-time against California and extended its win streak over the Golden Bears to 19 games: the longest streak against any single opponent in program history.
- The Trojans moved to 9-5 all-time in season openers.
- The Women of Troy played their first game in Rawlinson Stadium, the team's new home field. USC had previously played home games at Dignity Health Sports Park for two seasons (2024-25) during the stadium's construction and called McAlister Field its home for the 11 prior seasons (2013-23).
- Prior to the game's first draw, a ceremonial opening draw took place in the center circle between Trojan alumna Katie Ramsay (2019-23) and current senior attacker Maggie Ramsay.
