Grant Govel Named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

LOS ANGELES -- After leading the No. 13 USC baseball team to a two-hit shutout on the road at Northwester, Grant Govel was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week.

It was Govel's second Big Ten weekly award as he also earned the honor on opening weekend. The Trojans have now earned four of the five B1G Pitcher of the Week awards this season, with Govel earning the honor on Feb. 16 and March 16, and Mason Edwards on March 2 and 9.

Pitching in 35-degree weather, Govel threw seven scoreless innings to help USC to its 19th-straight win on Saturday in 2-0 decision at Northwestern. His pitching line included six strikeouts with no walks and two hits allowed as the sophomore righty allowed only one runner past first base

On the season Govel owns a 0.27 ERA, having given up one run in 33 innings pitched

USC's 19^th straight win on Saturday matched the program record for the longest winning streak, tying the 1955 USC squad for the mark. USC will host San Diego State on Tuesday and CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday at Dedeaux Field.
