USC Track and Field's Garrett Kaalund Named to The Bowerman Watch List
March 05, 2026 | Track & Field
LOS ANGELES – The Bowerman Advisory Board featured Garrett Kaalund on the third iteration of The Bowerman Watch List for the 2026 season announced on Thursday.
The Bowerman is awarded to collegiate track & field's top male and female athlete for the year. The Bowerman Advisory Board, and ultimately, The Bowerman Voters, are instructed to consider performances inclusively from the collegiate indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons. The watch list represents the group's consensus top 10 for each update.
Kaalund dominated in the 200m throughout the indoor season, breaking the school record twice and recording NCAA and world leads in the event. At Big Ten Indoor Championships, his new program record of 20.06 registered as No. 2 time in NCAA history and No. 3 in the world all-time. He also broke the meet and facility record to bring home the gold in the event. He broke the school record for the first time and set the world lead at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in 20.12, breaking the school record (20.26) set by Olympic champion Andre De Grasse in 2015.
The Bowerman releases a total of eight watch lists throughout the season with the next watch list available March 25. The full list can be found here.
Kaalund and the USC track and field team head to NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Results and more information can be found at usctrojans.com or @usc_track_field on Instagram and X.
