USC Track and Field Sets Two NCAA Leading Times, Breaks Women's 4x100m Relay and 400m School Records to Close Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. – The USC track and field team shattered two school records, the women's 4x100m relay and women's 400m, and recorded four wins and 13 top-three finishes on day two of the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. Distance runners competed at Bryan Clay Invitational across the 1500m and 400m, wrapping up a strong weekend showing.
The women's 4x100m relay team got the day started with Christine Mallard, Mia Brahe-Pedersen, Madison Whyte and Brianna Selby tying the No. 3 time in NCAA history for the event at 42.12. Seamless handoffs led the Women of Troy to break the previous school record of 42.21 set in 2019 by Chanel Brissett, Angie Annelus, Lanae-Tava Thomas and TeeTee Terry.
Less than an hour later, Whyte returned to the track, breaking another school record in the 400m. Her time of 49.64 broke the previous record of 49.99 set by Kendall Ellis in 2018 and puts her at the No. 9 slot in NCAA history. She now has the No. 2 time in the NCAA this season.
Garrett Kaalund opened his outdoor season in typical NCAA-leading fashion in the men's 200m, notching a time of 20.10 on the way to a win. Additionally, Edward Nketia and Kaalund set the No. 2 and No. 3 times in the NCAA this season in the 100m, respectively. Nketia took second at 9.84 and Kaalund recorded a time of 9.90 to place third (wind-aided).

- Ashley Erasmus took home the field win of the day at women's shot put with a best mark of 17.90m (58-8.75) on her first throw of the day.
- The men's 4x100 relay of Cordial Vann, Nickolas Miller, Jacob Andrews and Nketia took third place with a time of 39.09.
- Brianna Selby and Mia Brahe-Pedersen placed second and third, respectively, in the women's 100m. Selby recorded a time of 11.14 and Brahe-Pedersen clocked 11.19.
- Jack Stadlman notched a new personal best in the 400m at 45.43 to place fifth.
- Racquil Broderick threw for 60.88m (199-9) to claim silver in the men's discus throw. Vincent Ugwoke was just behind at a mark of 60.23m (197-7) to place third. Mico Lampinen rounded out the success for the Trojans at fourth place and a mark of 59.51m (195-3).
- In the women's 200m, Christine Mallard placed third in 22.62 and Rachael Uvieghara came in sixth in a time of 23.15.
- Reese Garland placed fifth in women's discus at a mark of 56.80m (186-4). Ashley Erasmus followed Garland in sixth place with a throw of 55.03m (180-6).
- The Lampinen brothers closed out the day with top-five finishes at men's hammer throw. Mico Lampinen secured fourth with a throw of 68.78m (225-8). Max Lampinen threw for 67.40m (221-1) to place fifth.
