USC Track and Field Throwers Sweep Day One of UCLA Dual Meet

Trojans go four-for-four in throwing events with three podium sweeps
LOS ANGELES — The USC track and field throws team kicked off the historic rivalry against UCLA on Saturday in dominant fashion, winning all four events. The Women of Troy hold a 18-0 advantage and the men have a 17-1 lead over the Bruins headed into day two.
The Women of Troy set the tone in the women's hammer throw, sweeping the podium to kick off the day. Karyssa Owens led the way with a winning mark of 59.14m (194-0), followed by Jenna Gallaway in second at 57.46m (188-6) and Reese Garland in third at 45.36m (148-10).
The Trojans kept the momentum rolling in the men's hammer throw with another podium sweep. Mico Lampinen delivered a standout performance with a winning throw of 69.65m (228-6), slotting in at No. 9 on the USC all-time performance list. Max Lampinen placed second with a throw of 67.90m (222-9) and Matteo Mitchell finished third with a new personal best of 64.23m (210-8).
In the women's discus, USC once again controlled the field with Reese Garland claiming first place with a throw of 54.06m (177-4). Ashley Erasmus (53.59m/175-10) and Karyssa Owens (50.33m/165-1) secured second and third, respectively.
On the men's side, the Trojans added another victory in the discus. Racquil Broderick recorded a winning mark of 61.33m (201-2), and Mico Lampinen placed second at 57.76m (189-6) to finish the day.
The entire USC track and field crew will be back in action tomorrow. Field events are set to start at 11 a.m. with running events beginning at 12 p.m at Allyson Felix Field. More information can be found at usctrojans.com and live updates will be made available @usc_track_field on Instagram and X.
