The Athletic Selects USC’s Jazzy Davidson As National Freshman of the Year
March 06, 2026 | Women's Basketball
USC standout continues historic debut season with national recognition.
USC guard Jazzy Davidson has secured a major national honor with The Athletic's selection of Davidson as National Freshman of the Year.
Davidson's national recognition comes after a historic first season in which she has emerged as one of the most versatile players in college basketball. She wrapped the regular season leading USC outright in every major statistical category including points (17.9), rebounds (5.9), assists (4.3), steals (2.0) and blocks per game (2.1), making her the only Division I player to accomplish that feat this year.
As the nation's only player averaging at least two blocks and two steals per game, Davidson's defensive impact has been undeniable. Offensively, USC is 12 points per 100 possessions better with Davidson on the court, according to CBB Analytics.
Davidson recorded 28 double-figure scoring performances during the regular season, including a streak of 26 straight games dating back to Nov. 18. She has also delivered 12 games with 20 or more points, highlighted by a career-high 32-point performance against No. 10 Ohio State.
Earlier this week, Jazzy was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Year while earning First-Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Defensive Team and Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors.
Davidson is just the second player in USC women's basketball history to earn the award, making another indelible mark in the program's record books early in her career. The first was Davidson's teammate Juju Watkins in 2024.
With her latest honor from The Athletic, Davidson's freshman season continues to stand among the most impactful debut campaigns in USC history.
