Mason Edwards Earns Second Straight B1G Weekly Honor
March 09, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES -- After leading the No. 20 USC baseball team to an opening-game win in a series sweep of Illinois this week, Mason Edwards was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the second straight time.
Â
Edwards also won the award last week after leading USC to an 11-inning win on the road at Cal Poly. USC has now earned three of four Big Ten Pitcher of the Week awards to start the year after Grant Govel took the honor on opening weekend.
Â
Edwards posted his fourth straight scoreless outing to start the season with 6.0 scoreless frames against Illinois, leading USC to a 4-0 victory on Friday night at Dedeaux Field. The junior lefty allowed just two hits while matching his career high for the third straight game with 11 strikeouts. Edwards gave up his only two hits in the fourth as Illinois loaded the bases with no outs, but got a popup, strikeout and groundout to strand them full.
Â
The two hits given up were the first allowed by Edwards since opening day. He now has a 0.00 ERA with three hits allowed and 42 strikeouts in 24.0 innings pitched to start the year.
Â
The Trojans are one of just two unbeaten teams remaining in the country after moving to 15-0 with four wins last week, matching the best start in program history. USC will host Long Beach State on Tuesday at Dedeaux Field.
