Trojans claim doubles point and three singles wins to down the Wildcats.
LOS ANGELES — USC men's tennis turned in a complete performance on Friday afternoon, sweeping Northwestern 4-0 at Marks Stadium to open its weekend homestand.
The Trojans (15-6, 7-3) set the tone early in doubles play, bouncing back after a loss on court two to secure the opening point. The No. 80 tandem of Max Exsted and Nate Trouve delivered a 6-4 win on court one to even things up, and Connor Church and Branko Djuric followed with a gritty 7-5 victory on court three to clinch the doubles point for USC.
Carrying that momentum into singles, USC quickly took control of the match. No. 64 Nathan Trouve extended the lead to 2-0 with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 win over Greyson Casey on court two, and Jack McCarthy made it 3-0 shortly after with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 performance against Chad Miller on court four.
With the Trojans in firm command, Niels Hoffmann sealed the sweep on court six, rolling to a straight-set win over Jacob Golden to secure the 4-0 victory. USC held leads on all remaining courts at the time of the clinch, including strong showings from Branko Djuric and No. 72 Max Exsted in unfinished matches.
The win marks USC's 15th of the season as the Trojans continue to build momentum in conference play. USC will be back in action Sunday at Marks Stadium, hosting No. 14 Illinois at 11 a.m. in its regular-season home finale, which will also serve as Senior Day.
