The Trojans’ sophomore middle blocker turned in 12 blocks on the road to help the Trojans earn a series split with No. 10 BYU
LOS ANGELES – USC men's volleyball sophomore middle blocker Parker Tomkinson (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) was chosen as the MPSF/Molten Defensive Player of the Week for the week of April 6-12, the league announced on Monday, April 13.
The award is the ninth won by a Trojan this season and is the fourth-career award for Tomkinson who was also picked for the honor just last week. Tomkinson has now won the MPSF's weekly award twice in each of his first two seasons at USC.
Tomkinson put up 12 blocks and averaged 1.33 bocks per set to help the Trojans earn a road split at 10th-ranked BYU. In the first of two matches, he had eight blocks to equal his career high and added eight kills while hitting .467 and total 12.0 points. In the rematch, Tomkinson had four blocks (one solo) and scored on 10 kills while hitting .444 to put up 12.5 points (24.5 in the two matches) to average 2.72 points per set against the Cougars. It was his third and fourth times in double-digit points this spring and his first in double-digit kills.
No. 6 USC (17-4, 9-3 MPSF) closes its regular-season schedule with a home-and-home against No. 4 Pepperdine (20-5, 11-1) this week. The Trojans and the Waves meet at Galen Center on Thursday night (April 16) at 7 p.m. PT for USC's Senior Night and then do it again on Saturday (April 18) at 6 p.m. at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, Calif. Both matches will be shown live on Big Ten Plus streams. The match at Firestone Fieldhouse will be final time the teams meet in the venerable gymnasium. The Waves will host home contests at a new on-campus facility named The Mountain beginning in 2027.
