The Trojans’ sophomore rover was also chosen to the All-Big Ten Second Team
NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – USC lacrosse sophomore defender Sophie Gangemi (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield School) was named to the IWLCA All-West/Midwest Region second team on Thursday, May 14.
Â
128 student-athletes on NCAA Division I teams make up the 2026 all-region teams. Each student-athlete is now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-America team, which will be announced on May 21.
Â
Gangemi's honor is the first of her career and pushes USC's total to 39 all-region certificates with 17 first team and 22 second-team selections. Gangemi started and played in all 17 games for the Trojans. She led the team in ground balls (35) and caused turnovers (23) and had career highs of seven ground balls and six caused turnovers in a home game against Ohio State (April 11). She also secured a draw control and scored a goal on the only shot she took this season.
Â
The Trojans (8-9 overall, 1-7 Big Ten) finished the regular season eighth in the Big Ten standings and did not advance to the conference tournament. USC earned four home wins in the new Rawlinson Stadium including a 9-8 victory over a 24th-ranked Brown (Feb. 15). The Trojans also collected four wins on the road, which included a 15-10 decision at Oregon to conclude the season. USC had one of the toughest schedules in the nation and faced eight ranked opponents including three in a row ranked in the top 10.
