Trojans Advance to Regional Final with 15-4 Win Over Texas State

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The USC baseball team advanced to the final of the College Station Regional on Saturday, beating Texas State 15-4 behind a second straight offensive outburst.

The win comes on the heels of the Trojans beating Lamar 19-6 last night. USC will face Texas A&M at 6 p.m. PT/8 p.m. CT in the regional final. The Trojans will need to beat the Aggies tonight to force an if necessary game on Monday. Tonight's game will be broadcast on ESPN.

USC jumped in front immediately on Saturday afternoon against Texas State, getting a first-inning grand slam from Kevin Takeuchi. Isaac Cadena hit a two-run homer in the third and after two more runs in the fourth, the Trojans held an 8-0 lead.

Texas State mounted a rally in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs on four hits to cut the lead in half. Sax Matson would take the mound with the bases loaded and one out, striking out two of the next three batters he faced to strand three runners.

Matson picked up the win after 3.2 brilliant innings of relief on the mound, giving up no runs on two hits, while walking one and striking out four batters. The Bobcats would not score again after the fourth.

USC's offensive onslaught resumed as the Trojans scored one in the sixth, two in the seventh and capped the game with four runs in the eighth. Walter Urbon continued his hot hitting, putting the exclamation point on the day with a three-run double in the eighth.
