No. 20 USC Women's Volleyball Falls to No. 13 Creighton in Four

Abigail Mullen and London Wijay each delivered 13 kills in a loss to the Bluejays
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The 20th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (1-1) suffered a four-set loss (23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19) to No. 13 Creighton (2-1) to close out the State Farm Volleyball Showcase at the Sanford Pentagon on Sunday, Aug. 30.

- RS Jr. OH London Wijay scored 14.5 points earned on 13 kills and three blocks to go with seven digs.
- So. OPP Abigail Mullen also had 13 kills (4e) and hit .321 on 28 attempts. She also had nine digs and a pair of blocks.
- Jr. S Lilli Etter put up 40 assists and had seven digs, three service aces, a kill, and a block to total 4.5 points.
- RS Sr. OH Adonia Faumuina added nine kills and had five digs, and three blocks for 10.5 points.
- Jr. MB Mia Tvrdy put in seven kills and led all players with six blocks to finish with 10.0 points.
- So. LIB Taylor Deckert led all players with 15 digs and had three assists to go with a kill off a downed overpass.
- For the Bluejays, Trinity Shadd-Ceres led with 13 kills. Abbey Hayes and Eloise Brandewie each had 10 kills. Saige Damrow put up 12 digs. Katie Dalton put up 26 assists and had eight digs. Rayna Christianson had 19 assists and four aces.
- The Trojans delivered 18 kills (5e) on 41 attacks to register a .317 hitting percentage in a 25-23 first-set win. Wijay had six kills and a block in the opening frame while Faumuina turned in four. Deckert tallied five of her digs in the first as part of an effort to hold Creighton to .226 hitting.
- The teams traded barbs in set two, but the Bluejays claimed a 25-22 win to even the match. Creighton hit .333 and had seven kills from Brandewie in the win. Christianson also served a pair of aces during a crucial early run to give the Bluejays momentum. Brandewie's back-to-back kills gave Creighton a 19-16 lead that it never relinquished.
- Creighton led by as many as seven points in the third and moved in front, 2-1, with a 25-21 win. USC was held to a .065 hitting percentage despite getting five kills from Mullen. Hayes had five and Shadd-Ceres had four as part of a 14-kill Creighton performance in which the Bluejays hit .235.
- USC held several two-point leads early in the fourth, but Creighton seized control to take a four-point lead at 13-9 and was never equaled on the way to a 25-19 win to close the match. The Trojans got four kills from Wijay in the fourth while Shadd-Ceres matched with four of her own and was lifted by three kills from Ayden Ames and a .273 hitting performance by the Bluejays.
- USC heads to Austin, Texas, to take on No. 2 Texas (2-1) on Wednesday (Sept. 2) at Gregory Gymnasium. The Trojans and the Longhorns will meet as part of the Big Ten-SEC Challenge and be shown live on ESPN2.
- USC fell to 7-5 all-time against Creighton.
- The Trojans go to 1-1 in the state of South Dakota.
- USC faced back-to-back ranked opponents to open the season for the first time since 2023 (at No. 19 Houston, at No. 23 Rice; both losses).
