Bio
USC:
Emma Kao begins her second season as a cross country runner for the Trojans. 2014: Was USC's second finisher in her collegiate debut with a time of 19:32.09 at the Mustang Challenge (5K) race on Sept. 20. Posted her best 5K time in placing 20th at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on Oct. 9 with a time of 19:13.00. Competed at the Pac-12 Championships on Oct. 31 and in her only 6K race of the season had a time of 24:26.
High School:
Kao is a 2014 graduate of Dana Hills High in Dana Point, Calif...She placed 22nd in the 2014 CIF Southern Section Cross Country Championship prelims with a time of 18:51...Kao also took 16th at the 2014 Orange County Cross Country Championships with a time of 18:02 on the 3-mile course...She set a 3-mile best of 17:48 in placing 10th at the 2013 SC League Finals...In track, she placed 18th in the CIF Southern Section 800m prelims with a time of 2:19.34...Had an 800m time of 2:16.96 to place fourth in the 2014 Orange County Track & Field Championships...also was 19th at that meet in the 1600m with a time of 5:18.21. She has an 800m PR of 2:16.54 which ranks second on the Dana Hills all-time list and a 1600m best of 5:15.81 which ranks 13th all-time by a Dana Hills female. She was a two-time All-CIF athlete and was the MVP track athlete in 2014. She was an AP Scholar, National Honor Society member and was her high school valedictorian.
Personal:
Emma was born on January 9, 1996 in Summit, N.J...Her parents are Henry and Karen Kao and she has three siblings, Claire, Owen and Lucy...She is a Medlife and California Scholarship member...She serves as and Undergraduate Student consultant and volunteers for Troy Camp...Her hobbies include surfing, making pizza and eating pizza, so naturally her favorite food is pizza...Her favorite actor is Brad Pitt and she is a fan of any Batman, any Transformers or Pirates of the Caribbean movies...Lists her favorite television shows as Breaking Bad and Grey's Anatomy...Would like to visit Antarctica...Says teammate Natasha Strickland is her sports hero because she embodies the epitome of a successful female athlete...Is majoring in Human Biology...After USC she would like to be the real life version of Matthew McConaughey's character in Interstellar.
