USC men’s water polo added another champion to its coaching staff in Matt Maier, a three-time All-American and 2018 NCAA Champion as a Trojan. Having joined the staff in January 2023, Maier now enters his second season as a men’s assistant coach under head coach Marko Pintaric.
Maier was a two-time team captain and a decorated member of four USC teams that continued the Trojans’ run of NCAA Tournament appearances. Maier scored 101 goals in his Trojan career while winning a 2018 national championship and picking up three sets of All-America honors. The 2016 MPSF Newcomer of the Year, Maier came to USC out of Damien High in La Verne, Calif. He’d pick up All-MPSF honors all four season while completing his USC degree in human biology in 2020.
As a member of the U.S. Youth National Team, Maier won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2014 UANA Junior Pan American Championship. Prior to returning to USC to coach, Maier worked in medical sales and was continuing his education while living in Nevada.
