THIS SEASON: Dylan Carter, a top-end freestyler from Trinidad and Tobago who can also swim the fly and back, is a career 12-time All-American and three-time NCAA and Pac-12 relay champion who is back for his redshirt senior year. Carter holds USC’s school records in the 200y free and 100y fly, is USC’s second-fastest in the 50y and 100y free and is among USC's top 10 in the 100y back. He is also part of USC's team records in the 200y, 400y and 800y free relays and in the 200y and 400y medley relays.
2017: Carter had the best season of his USC career as a 2017 junior, capped by a six-time All-American performance at the NCAA Championships. He finished tied for second in the 200y free (1:31.16), fourth in the 100y free (41.76, 41.73 in prelims) and seventh in the 50y free (19.08, 19.04 in prelims). All three best times from those events were USC’s second-fastest ever performances. He was the only swimmer at the meet to reach the final in the 50-100-200 free trio and the first Trojan to do it since Scott Findorff in 1976. He also led USC to third in the 400y free relay, fifth in the 800y free relay (with a school-record 1:30.95 leadoff) and sixth in the 400y medley relay … Following the season he represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2017 World Championships, taking 18th in the 100m free, 19th in the 50m fly, 24th in the 200m free and 28th in the 100m fly … Carter turned in his best conference meet of his career at the 2017 Pac-12s, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 200y free with a then-school-record 1:31.98. He was also fifth in the 50y free (19.40) and seventh in the 100y free (43.07) and helped USC’s 400y medley relay break the school record with the fly leg ... Carter, who won dual meet 12 races on the year, broke USC’s record in the 100y fly at the 2016 Texas Invitational with a 45.27 ... At the 2016 FINA World Championships (short course) in December of 2016, Carter was a two-time finalist, finishing fourth in the 200m free and seventh in the 50m fly. In the 200m free, he twice broke the Trinidad and Tobago national record, ultimately lowering it to 1:42.48. He also lowered his country’s mark in the 50m fly twice, the second time in the semifinals with a 22.53 ... For his efforts, he won (by popular vote) Trinidad and Tobago’s 2016 Peoples Choice Award.
2016: Carter redshirted as a 2016 junior to train for the 2016 Olympics ... He represented Trinidad & Tobago at the Rio Games, swimming the 100m free and finishing 23rd (48.80) ... Carter won four titles at the 2016 Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships, claiming first in the 50m, 100m and 200m free and the 100m back.
2015: Carter was a four-time All-American as a 2015 sophomore, swimming on two NCAA winning relays and one Pac-12 relay winner ... Carter swam the second leg on USC's 800y free relay that won in a school-record 6:11.64 and then anchored Troy's 400y free relay winner, coming from behind on the final leg in another school record (2:47.06). Carter also swam on USC's fifth-place 200y free relay and on its sixth-place 200y medley relay. Individually, Carter scored twice in 'B' finals, finishing 13th in the 100y free (42.74, PR 42.61 in prelims) and 16th in the 200y free (1:36.01, PR 1:33.27 in prelims). He was also 19th in the 50y free in a PR 19.41 ... At the 2015 Pac-12 Championships, he was a two-time finalist, taking fifth in the 50y free (19.52) and eighth in the 100y fly (46.80) while finishing 11th in the 100y free (43.22). He also led off USC's Pac-12 title in the 800y free relay ... At the 2015 World Championships, Carter swam in four events for Trinidad and Tobago. His top finish was a 15th in the semifinals of the 50m fly (23.60).

He led off USC's 800y free relay title and swam second on Troy's 400y free relay win ... He was second in the 50m fly and third in the 50m free at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in the summer ... At the 2014 Commonwealth Games this fall, Carter was fifth in the 100m free and a semifinalist in the 100m fly.
HIGH SCHOOL: Carter, who prepped at American Heritage School, broke his country's national record in the 400m free (3:50.05) at Trinidad & Tobago's 2013 Short Course Trials and won silver in the 50m fly at the 2013 Junior Worlds. He also became the first Trinidad & Tobago swimmer to final in the 100m back, taking fourth, and also was top 8 in the 50m back at the meet ... Earned the Trinidad & Tobago's Ministry of Sport 2013 Spirit of Sport Award as Junior Male Athlete of the Year ... Carter was third in the 50y free (19.65) at the 2013 U.S. Junior Nationals ... He won he 2012 U.S. Junior National title in the 200y free and broke 20 seconds in the 50 free for the first time at the meet at the age of 16 ... He burst onto the scene at the 2009 Carifta Swimming Championships in Aruba when he won eight golds and a silver and set eight Carifta records ... He was a finalist at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games in the 50m and 100m back and the 50m fly and qualified for the 2013 World Championships but opted to focus on the World Juniors instead.
