Angell begins her second season as USC's director of operations for the track & field program. She came to USC after serving as the director of operations for USC Director of Track & Field Caryl Smith Gilbert at UCF in 2013.
Angell graduated from Kentucky in 2011 where she competed in the throws, earning honorable mention All-America status in the discus as a senior. Her specialty was the shot put and the discus throw with best marks of 53-6.25 (16.31m) in the shot put and 184-7 (56.26m) in the discus throw. Angell was a 2010 USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic honoree. She reached the finals at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in the discus throw. She placed 11th with a throw of 174-4. Angell had a throw of 176-11 to reach the finals.
"Mary worked with me at UCF and has shown a great ability to coordinate the operation of a successful program," said Smith Gilbert. "She is a very smart person and understands what it takes to provide the best environment for the student-athletes to become successful."
