Nik Popovic was hired in March 2022 as the Head Performance Coach for USC Women’s Basketball.
He came to USC after 24 years (1998-2009 and 2019-2022) as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the West Sydney Razorbacks and Sydney Kings teams and a High-Performance Manager for the South Melbourne Dragons and Melbourne United teams, all in the Australian NBL League. He also served as the Director of Performance for the Shenzhen Leopards (2009-2019) team in the Chinese CBA league. During this span, Nik has been part of 5 Championship teams – Sydney Kings (2003, 2004, 2005), South Melbourne Dragons (2009) and Melbourne United (2021).
Additionally, he served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Australian Men’s National Basketball team covering the 2004 (Athens) and 2008 (Beijing) Olympic Games, as well as the 2006 (Japan) World Cup.
Popovic received his bachelor’s degree in Sports Science in 1998 from the University of New South Wales (NSW), and his master’s degree in Exercise Science in 2006 from Edith Cowan University (ECU). He also holds both the NSCA RSCC*E and ASCA Masters Level 3 strength and conditioning accreditations.
In between his undergraduate and post graduate degrees, Popovic played in the NSW CBA Basketball League where he won a championship in 2002 and was awarded the ‘Most Inspirational Player’ during their title run.
His wife’s name is Rada, who has over 30 years’ experience as a couturier fashion designer.
