A member of the United States National Team from 2010-15 and a Women’s Pro Lacrosse League (WPLL) champion with the New England Command, Katie Hertsch is in her second season (2020) as an assistant coach for the USC lacrosse program.
An accomplished player on the field, Hertsch earned All-Star accolades as a member of the Philadelphia Force of the United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) in 2016 and was a standout at Hofstra where she ranks among the top 10 in career ground balls, caused turnovers, and draw controls.
Previously, Hertsch served as an assistant coach at Rutgers for five seasons (2014-18) and had stints as an assistant coach at Hofstra (2013) and Boston University (2012).
Among her numerous qualifications, Hertsch was drafted by the Philadelphia Force and played in the inaugural season of the United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) in 2016. She appeared in all nine games for the Force and was named to the UWLX All-Star Team.
Hertsch played with Team USA as a member of the 38-player 2014-15 U.S. Women’s National Team roster. She was first named to the U.S. National Team in 2010 and helped lead Team USA to a gold medal at the 2013 FIL World Cup title in Oshawa, Canada. In addition to playing for Team USA, Hertsch also served as a clinic instructor as a representative of the squad.
As the defensive assistant coach at Hofstra, Hertsch’s influence was clear as the team finished in the top of the Colonial Athletic Association in several defensive categories and advanced to the league’s championship game in 2013. Hertsch also spent a year in Boston as an assistant coach for the BU women’s lacrosse program. In one season with the Terriers, Hertsch helped the squad to an 11-6 record as they captured the America East’s 2012 regular-season crown.
Hertsch is heralded as one of the top defenders to ever suit up at Hofstra. In three years on Long Island, the former captain amassed 138 ground balls, 70 caused turnovers, and 110 draw controls. Those totals ranked in the top-10 all-time of each respective category. A two-time All-Mid-Atlantic Region team selection, Hertsch also garnered All-Colonial Athletic Association accolades as a junior and senior and was twice named to the IWLCA Academic Squad. Hertsch graduated cum laude from Hofstra in 2011 with a bachelor of science in physical education.
