Kirstyn Atkinson joined USC as the program's director of operations in February 2015 and is in her second season.
Atkinson previously served as a volunteer assistant coach at Navy where her primary focus was on defense. In two seasons at the Naval Academy, she helped oversee and mentor goalie Annie Foky. In 2014, Atkinson guided a defensive unit that ranked third overall in the NCAA in scoring defense (6.53); the squad's highest in program history.
In 2013, Atkinson helped with a defensive unit that ranked third in the NCAA in scoring defense (7.43). Foky had a breakout season with a .476 save percentage in conference play, and garnered Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors. Navy had one of its most successful seasons in program history (19-2 overall) with a 6-0 record in Patriot League games, and won its fourth straight conference title. The Midshipwomen received the eighth seed in the NCAA tournament and defeated Monmouth in the first round.
Atkinson graduated from Northwestern in 2011, where she was a two-sport athlete (soccer and lacrosse). During her lacrosse career, the Wildcats advanced to the NCAA title game four times. She contributed to a defense that helped her team to a 23-0 record in 2009 and won that year's crown. Atkinson was a member of three National Championship teams and finished with a record of 85-5 (.944) during her four years as a member of the program.
Before arriving at Navy, Atkinson served as a graduate assistant coach at Drexel for the 2012 season. While at Drexel, she helped the team to an 11-6 record and a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) postseason tournament.
Atkinson also has experience as a head coach for the Skywalkers Lacrosse club for four years. She is also an experienced coach at camps for several top programs, including Northwestern.
A native of Baltimore, Md., Atkinson played for McDonogh School, one of the nation's top high school programs. She graduated from Northwestern ('11) with a bachelor's degree in education and social policy.
