BERKELEY, Calif. - Junior midfielder Isabelle Harvey's goal in the second overtime period lifted the No. 7 USC women's soccer team to a hard-fought 2-1 win over California in a Pacific-10 Conference match at Edwards Stadium on Friday afternoon.
USC improved to 12-3 overall and 5-0 in the Pac-10. The Women of Troy now have a six-match winning streak and have won their last 12 conference matches dating back to last season. USC next battles No. 8 Stanford in Palo Alto on Sunday at 1 p.m.
"We didn't play our best game, and Cal didn't make it easy on us," said USC Coach Jim Millinder, who received a red card just prior to the second overtime for expressing his dissatisfaction with the officiating. "But I'm very proud of our team for keeping their heads up, playing through the adversity and getting an outstanding result."
In a match with few scoring chances, Harvey made one count in the 111th minute. Senior midfielder Kim Clark crossed a ball from the right side toward the far post, where Harvey was stationed. Harvey poked the ball in, just between the post and the goalkeeper for the game-winner.
Clark had started the scoring in the second minute, as her corner kick from the left side curved in for a goal.
California (10-5-1, 3-2) tied the match in the 29th minute as Regina Holan headed in Tami Pivnick's free kick.
