EUGENE, Ore. - Junior midfielder Isabelle Harvey scored two goals, moving her into a tie for first place on the USC women's soccer team's career goal-scoring list, as the No. 8 Women of Troy defeated Oregon, 3-1, at Pape' Field in a Pacific-10 Conference match on Friday afternoon.
USC improved to 13-4 overall and 6-1 in the Pac-10. Oregon fell to 6-10, 2-4.
Harvey scored the first two goals of the match, the 38th and 39th of her career, tying Courtney Barham's mark of 39 goals, set from 1995-98. She also has scored a point in 12 straight conference matches dating back to last season. Harvey has a team-high 10 goals in 1999.
"This was probably Isabelle's best game of the season, in terms of creating opportunities," USC Coach Jim Millinder said. "She is playing like a true All-American. This match was all about execution in the final third, and we did just enough. Oregon played very well and made it tough for us."
Harvey's first goal came at 9:37. After taking a pass from senior defender Christina Kushnir near midfield, Harvey made a spectacular run past a few defenders up the middle and blasted a goal past the goalkeeper from about 15 yards out.
Harvey made it 2-0 at 22:47, as she took a free kick from inside the circle at the top of the penalty box, and bent it around the wall of defenders and into the net.
USC's third goal came at 27:47 on only the third shot of the match for the Women of Troy. Freshman forward Jackie Fodor made a nice run against two defenders, then passed to a wide-open sophomore forward Brittany Savelkoul, who scored from 10 yards out.
Oregon scored its goal at 33:37, as senior forward Erin Anderson kicked one in from 15 out off an assist from sophomore forward Chalise Baysa.
The second half didn't see any goals, though USC had the better opportunities.
USC visits Oregon State on Sunday (Oct. 31) at 2 p.m., then ends the regular season at UCLA on Nov. 7.
