The second half began with a 26-12 USC run, holding SDSU scoreless for four minutes before two consecutive USC fouls sent the Aztecs to the line at 8:56. San Diego State made 13 free throws in the following eight minutes, bringing the team within 12 points, its closest margin since early in the first half. Troy hit 30-70 from the field, and held SDSU to only 18 field goals in the 72-60 defeat.
