No. 18 USC Defeats Arizona State In Home Opener

Middle blocker Jennifer Pahl had a team-high 18 kills to lead the No. 18 USC women's volleyball team to a 12-15, 15-13, 15-9, 15-9, victory over Arizona State in a Pacific-10 conference match on Friday night (Sept. 24) in the USC North Gym.
USC improves to 6-2 and 1-0 in the Pac-10. Arizona State falls to 6-3 and 2-1. The Trojans have now defeated the Sun Devils seven straight times.
For the Trojans, junior outside hitter Kashi Cormier added 13 kills and a team-high 14 digs , while junior outside hitter Janae Henry notched 11 kills,10 digs and three service aces.
For the Sun Devils, Amanda Burbidge had a match-high 20 kills while teammate Becky Sidoti added 14 digs.
The Women of Troy started slow, dropping the first game while hitting only .050. USC, despite playing without starting middle blocker Amber Oliver due to an ankle sprain, outblocked (10 to five) and outhit (.258 to .150) the Sun Devils in the final three games to take the match. Overall, USC hit .216 to Arizona State's .192.
USC's next match is at 6 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 25) versus No. 14 Arizona in the North Gym.
