Men's Tennis Defeats UCI, 5-2

Los Angeles, Calif. -- The 11th-ranked USC men's tennis team defeated UC Irvine (5-1), 5-2, today (Feb. 11) at Marks Tennis Stadium. The Trojans improve to 6-1 overall this season, while handing the Anteaters their first loss in 2000.
For the second-consecutive time, USC swept all three doubles matches to start-off the afternoon with a 1-0 lead. Undefeated No. 7 Nicholas Rainey and Ryan Moore teamed for a 8-3 victory over Oliver Schweizer and Chris Chung (this was also Schweizer and Chung's first loss of the season). Patrick Gottesleben and Daniel Langre defeated UCI's David Matthew and Brett Lucas, 8-3, while Trojans Andrew Park and Parker Collins ended doubles play with a 8-4 win over Chris Ma and Stefan Pongratz.
After the No. 1 singles match USC led 2-0, before Chung defeated Moore, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), at the No. 2 position to bring the score within one (2-1). Park defeated UCI's Matthew, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3, Rainey defeated Lucas, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 5, and Langre posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ma to seal the victory for the Trojans.
USC will return to its home court next Friday, Feb. 18, against UCLA. The match will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Marks Tennis Stadium.
