Louisville, Ky. -- 19th-ranked USC men's tennis (7-4, 2-1 Pac-10) finished tied for 13th place by defeating No. 16 Georgia at the USTA/ITA Men's Team Indoor Championships at the Louisville Tennis Club in Louisville, Ky. Hosted by the University of Kentucky, the nation's premier indoor tournament hosts 16 of the top men's teams in the country. The Trojans completed tournament play with a 1-2 record after falling to Louisiana State and Baylor in the first rounds of the main draw and consolation play.
Throughout the tournament matches, teams have used an experimental format in deciding match tie-breakers where a tie-breaker - first to 10, win by two - is played in place of a third set.
USC cliched the doubles point by defeating the Bulldogs at the No. 2 and 3 positions. At No. 1, 4th-ranked Nicholas Rainey and Ryan Moore endured their second loss of the season to Georgia's Matias Boeker and Travis Parrott, 8-6.
In singles, the Trojans pulled out three of five matches which were decided in the tie-breaking format. USC's Daniel Langre clinched a 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) win at No. 5 to give the Trojans a 4-2 lead, ensuring victory. Langre and senior Patrick Gottesleben went undefeated (3-0) in tournament play.
USC will compete at the La Jolla Doubles Championships next week, March 3-5, in La Jolla, Calif.
