Illini No Match For Women Of Troy

Los Angeles, Calif. -- No. 12 USC women's tennis (11-3, 4-2) defeated Illinois, 6-2, Wednesday afternoon at Marks Tennis Stadium. The Women of Troy swept all six singles matches to clinch USC's victory over the Illini.
The Trojans won five matches in straight sets at the No. 2 through 6 spots. At the No. 1 position, USC senior Kara Warkentin came from behind to defeat Eldina Fazlic, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, after dropping the first set. Sophomore Krissy Hamilton-Heinberg played only her fourth match of the season, earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Michelle Webb at No. 6.
Illinois posted two points in doubles as pairs Brooke Ferney and Natascha Loebnitz defeated Anita Loyola and Veronika Safarova, 8-5, while Simone Kung and Webb posted a 9-7 win over Caroline Christian and Jewel Peterson. The third doubles match was not played.
The Women of Troy return to action on Wednesday, March 22, against No. 28 Fresno State. The match will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Marks Tennis Stadium.
