Westwood, Calif. -- Seventh-ranked USC women's tennis fell to No. 8 UCLA, 6-3, this afternoon at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Women of Troy suffered their second loss to Bruins this season and fall to 13-4 overall and 2-2 in the Pac-10.
The Bruins claimed four of six singles matches, needing only one doubles victory to clinch the dual match. USC held of UCLA by posting a win in the No. 1 doubles spot as Tiffany Brymer and Kara Warkentin upset ninth-ranked Amanda Basica and Sara Walker, 8-4. Despite the Trojans' win, the Bruins clinched the match on the No. 2 doubles court, where Elizabeth Schmidt and Abigail Spears beat Veronika Safarova and Anita Loyola, 8-4.
The Trojans USC's two singles victories came from seniors Warkentin and Jacqui Boyd. Boyd, who missed the last four matches due to a wrist injury, returned to earn a convincing victory over UCLA's Catherine Hawley, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 5. Warkentin upset No. 63 Amanda Basica, 7-5, 6-4, at center court.
