Women's Golf Battling For Second Place At NCAAs

Sunriver, Ore. - The USC women's golf team shot 297 (+9) on Friday to hang on to second place after three rounds of the 2000 NCAA Women's Golf Championships being held at Crosswater Golf Course in Sunriver, Ore., on Wednesday-Saturday (May 24-27).
Tourney leader Arizona all but clinched the crown by firing a 281 (-7) and now have a three-day total of 865--28 strokes ahead of second place USC. The Women of Troy shot 297 (+9) for a total of 893, but will have to fight off Texas, Oregon and Georgia, who are all deadlocked in third at 895. USC begins its final round off the first tee at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Sophomore Leila Chartrand continued to lead the Women of Troy: she shot a 74, bringing her total to 219, good for eighth place. Jenna Daniels and Julia Kraschinski of Arizona both lead the field with a 210 (-6).
Also for USC, freshman Candie Kung shot 75 for a total of 222 and is tied for 12th. Freshman Mikaela Parmlid had her second straight round of 73 and now has 224 (24th tie). Senior Linda Ishii shot 75 for a total of 229 (58th tie) and freshman Yon Yim shot 83 (239, 104th tie).
If USC finishes in second, it will be the highest finish for the Women of Troy at the NCAAs since 1993--also a second-place finish.
